South Burlington Food Shelf
Recognizing a need in our community, a small group of South Burlington residents and community leaders formed a coalition to help address the problem of food insecurity in Vermont’s second-largest city. Inspired by their faith and by a commitment to their neighbors, the group led the effort to build a food shelf that serves South Burlington’s food-insecure individuals and families.
The South Burlington Rotary Club has supported the food shelf since its inception in 2019. The support takes the form of cash donations from our fundraising efforts measured in the 10s of 1000s of dollars, food donations and time donated from our members and fundraising events. In 2024, the club made a major commitment to the food shelf by providing $50,000 over five years for the purchase of a van to support their mission (add link to press conference).

Youth Speech Contest
Every year, in Feb
ruary Rotary sponsors a speech contest for high school students from South Burlington on a given topic. The contest, guided by a set of published rules, is judged by local club members. The winner of the South Burlington contest will move on to compete in an area contest and then a district contest. Each round comes with escalating cash prizes for the winners. It is a great way for students with a knack for public speaking to put their skills to the test in front of people that they do not know.

Our club works with the South Burlington schools to promote and recruit students. Members of our Youth Services committee organize and run the event at the local level and may also participate in subsequent contests as well.
Youth Literacy

The South Burlington Rotary Club is committed to supercharging literacy with the youth of our community. We do this through handing out dictionaries to 3rd graders every year.
