ROTARY COMMUNITY BAND SHELL
The South Burlington Rotary Community Band Shell officially opened on September 24th, and brings a wonderful cultural component to a very active Dorset Park. The grand opening was just a taste of what’s to come in the way of music, drama, theatre, dance, and entertainment in our community... Special thanks to Rotary Committee Chair Jay Pasackow, Past President John Wilking, President Jeff Morin, to the major sponsors, and all the many individual contributors, for making this project a reality! The Grand Opening featured guitarist Chad Hollister, Karen Amirault Dance Company & KIDZ, The Voices Project, Windsong, and Dave Grippo with the Casserino Family. Kool 105 DJ, Rod Hill, provided music and coordinated the on-stage performances. Other activities included pony rides, Fire Dept. tower truck rides, face painting, inflatables, and food from the Rotary Tent.
There is currently a community-wide committee being formed to draft a use & fee policy for the Band Shell for City Council consideration and adoption prior to the spring 2007 season. Rotary members Rick Neu and Sandy Walsh will serve on this committee which will be chaired by Tom Hubbard. Louise Murphy will also serve on the committee representing the Community Library.
The Rotary has formulated a new Band Shell Committee whose task is to create and develop an annual community-wide Rotary event at the Band Shell. Several ideas are being tossed about and the goal is to have a specific idea by the end of December for the committee to begin planning. Members of this committee include Jay Pasackow, Tom Hubbard, Jeff Morin, John Wilking, John Knox, Sue Wainer, Greg Brown, Tony Kvader, and Rick Neu.
